Organized on Sepetember
28, 1908, as one of the first English-speaking congregations of the
Augustana Synod, Messiah took birth when 44 adults and their children
left Augustana Lutheran Church and began worshiping in a former
Methodist church. Messiah has a long history of neighborhood ministry -
by itself and in cooperation with other congregations. These
ministries have included a Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, groups for
seniors, Bible study groups, the Kaleidoscope program which provides
after-school and summer activities for children, a community garden in
connection with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, holiday baskets and
books, caroling to shut-ins to name a few.
Messiah has served as the training site for seminarians and interns
over the years. Seven "Messiah sons" went on to be ordained into the
ministry.

Now as we begin our second century of service, we are challenged to
continue in the "faith of our fathers" as we have moved our worship and
office space to the new Center For Changing Lives at 2400 Park. As we
undergo a paradigm shift to meet the needs of our worshiping community
and the neighborhood that we are blessed to be a part of, we rest on the
sure foundation of not only the past 100 years but on the constancy of
God's mercy, hope, faith and love
